Central to the AHDB Wheat growth guide is a common set of UK crop benchmarks. Each benchmark is a reference point against which a crop’s performance can be compared. The benchmarks are based on observations of high-yielding feed wheat with a slow rate of development, across several seasons at UK sites. UK wheat prices are capped by those in Europe as we meet import parity. With a falling MATIF market, this will bring the import ceiling lower and therefore pressure UK prices. UK feed wheat futures (May-20) have been following the track of MATIF closely. Rapeseed prices up as global markets bounce: Grain Market Daily A drop in sterling means that the €5.00/t rise seen in Paris rapeseed futures (May-20) from Friday to Tuesday equates to £8.95/t. The weekly survey shows the average ex-farm prices for wheat, barley and oats as well as the volume of grain traded. Each week on a Monday, data is published for the purchases made during the previous week (Friday to Thursday) and, under the AHDB Order (2008), it is mandatory for buyers of more than 1,000 tonnes of UK In the UK the AHDB’s milling wheat price topped out at £187.48/tonne in August 2018, only to fall 25% in just 13 months. With such a whiplash of prices in the past two seasons the recent weather-based headlines have garnered considerable interest; certainly from producers who undoubtedly would like the downward price trend to abate.
